Taken by Frank Sutcliffe in 1881, this carefully arranged photograph shows an Egton Estate wagon drawn by a team of four horses, ascending the steep hill from Egton Bridge to Goathland.
There is slight movement evident in both the children indicating the relatively long exposure necessary due to the small lens aperture which he would be using to ensure a reasonable degree of sharpness over the whole of the picture.
