Whitby’s West Cliff and lower harbour taken from near St. Mary’s Church.
The Royal Hotel, the prominent building on the right was built by George Hudson the 'Railway King'. He hoped to turn Whitby into a popular holiday resort.
He founded the Whitby Building Company and the plans and development for rows of terraced boarding houses were laid out - George Street and Hudson Street remain today. Khyber Pass was also built to allow easier access to the beach
