“Whitby Town and Lower Harbour”
The camera position is on a rocky out crop called Spion Kop to the east of Khyber Pass. As you can see from the names, the pass was cut through the cliff around the time of the Boar war in South Africa.
This photograph taken in late afternoon sunlight shows the bridge which was completed in 1835 at a cost of £10,000 and replaced in 1908 by the present bridge on the same site.
