"A Bit of News"
Taken around 1884 in Cliff Street, Robin Hoods Bay, a small tightly knit fishing village about six miles south east of Whitby.
In this photograph Harrison Alison, reputed to have been the only literate member of the group, is reading to Tommy Baxter, Mary Emmerson - who lived at the Almshouses and Lumar William Storm.
The baskets they are holding are pots for catching lobster and crabs.
