Photograph taken by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe on Tate Hill Sands in Whitby lower harbour, circa 1898. The girl is Isobel (Bella) Batchelor and the two fishermen are Jameson ‘Cud’ Colley and Jack Roberts. They are arranged around the fishing coble ‘Lily’. When this photograph was taken Bella lived on Church Lane, Church Street.
The tall square building behind the fishermen is the Harbour Masters Office with the lifeboat shed flanking at the right.
